PostSubject: A New Idea for an RP   Sun Jan 23, 2011 12:33 pm

Recently I have been reading a manga called Beserk. To be frank I thought this manga was epic and I think it would be a really good RP. I'll give a brief overview of it and you can all post and see if you would be interested in joining it.

Berserk's setting is inspired by medieval Europe. It centers around the life of Guts, an orphaned mercenary warrior, and Griffith, the leader of a mercenary band called the Band of the Hawk. As he ages, Guts changes from a solitary boy into a man who realizes the value of camaraderie. The story contains elements of both fantasy and horror, as it explores both the best and worst of human nature. Both the manga and anime are noted for their heavy violence.

In Beserk there are 4 main story arcs these are;

Golden Age Arc
Black Swordsman/Retribution Arcs
Hawk of the Millennium Empire Arc
Fantasia Arc

The Golden Age

The golden agewhich I believe would be the best arc to cover in an RP because it is set in the past of the main character Gatts/Gutts. Guts is born from a hanged mother and discovered by mercenary leader Gambino, who teaches Guts swordplay and enlists him in his mercenary group. Following a gruesome battle, Gambino is crippled with Guts left as the family breadwinner. One night, Gambino attacks Guts in a drunken rage, but Guts kills Gambino in self-defense and is chased from the camp by other mercenaries. Over the years, Guts finds work as a mercenary, slowly building his legend. After defeating a feared mercenary captain Bazzuso during a castle siege, Guts is attacked by Corcus, a captain of the Band of the Hawk. Easily defeating Corcus, Guts is pitted against Casca, a female captain, whom he prepares to defeat when he is interrupted by Griffith, the enigmatic, white-haired commander of the Band of the Hawk. As they duel, Griffith, having witnessed Guts's swordplay during the castle siege, declares that should Guts lose the fight, he will enlist in the Band of the Hawk. Guts agrees to the wager but loses the duel.

Guts serves his years in the Band of the Hawks, commanding one of its formidable raider units as the Band of the Hawk fights in the King of Midland's campaign against the Kingdom of Chuder. During this campaign Guts encounters Nosferatu Zodd, a formidable demon Apostle who defeats both Guts and Griffith, but stops short of killing them when he notices Griffith's pendant, a Crimson Behelit. Laughing, he disappears from the dungeon, offering the Hawks a quizzical victory.

Griffith is knighted by the King and takes an interest in Princess Charlotte, the King's daughter. The King orders Griffith to take Doldrey castle, an impenetrable fortress commanded by the fearsome Rhino knights under General Boscogn. Griffith breaks his forces into two groups, drawing the Rhino knights from the castle with one and infiltrating the castle with the other. With the Hawk's flag flying from the castle, Griffith declares victory and allows the Rhino knights to scatter. The King promotes Griffith to general. Guts, yearning for his own path, leaves the Band of the Hawk. Declaring that Guts may only leave after defeating him, Griffith and Guts duel, which Guts swiftly wins. Guts departs as a distraught Griffith sneaks into Princess Charlotte's room and copulates with her. The next morning, Griffith is arrested by the King and imprisoned in a dungeon, as the Band of the Hawk are ambushed by the Midland Army.

This has been taken straight from the wiki page about Beserk I didn't write it all myself.

Now here is how I want the RP to run, each person can create there own character and take a posistion in the Band of Hawk, army of midland or just any random character that they desire. Alternatively they could control any character that already exists in the manga or anime and tweak them to fit their RP style. The story will be free flowing and it does not have to follow the manga at all I just believe that knowing a bit about the Berserk world would be helpful.

Behelit

There are items called Behelit. A Behelit is a small, egg-like oval object, with a set of human facial features scattered on its surface—giving the thing a rather disconcerting appearance. In fact, reference is often made in the story to the fact that the Behelit looks to be a living thing, and it emits a certain aura of unspecified dread. On occasion, it seems as though one of the Behelit's eyes opens and stares at the examiner, though this is usually quickly disregarded as merely an illusion.

In the anime series, two types of Behelits are expressly shown, one of which is more significant: It is the crimson Behelit owned by Griffith, leader of the Band of the Hawk. It is also called the Egg of the Conqueror or Egg of the King, and was given to Griffith when he was a child by an old fortune teller. It is believed that any one possessing this Behelit is destined to someday rule the world, and as this is very much in line with Griffith's ambition, he continues to hold on to it. The other type of Behelits are more common, and holds less power. Summoning the power of a Behelit is analogous to making a pact with the "god hand" for immortality and monstrous strength. One offers their own flesh and blood (and/or the flesh and blood of others close to them) for that power. The Crimson Behelit, however, falls upon the one destined to be "King."

God hand

The God Hand are a powerful group of five angels (or demons), each corresponding to a finger or thumb, directly below the Idea of Evil in power and authority. All of them were originally humans who were chosen by the Idea of Evil to serve its purpose of giving reason for humanity's suffering. They each possessed and used the Crimson Behelit in order to transcend their humanity. It is unknown whether there are five Crimson Behelits or whether the same one came to each of them in turn.

The God Hand can't take corporeal form in the mortal plane; if they do appear there, it is a construct, formed by whatever is at hand. They can also appear when summoned by a Behelit for the purpose of creating Apostles or during the Eclipse which happens only once every 216 years and marks the birth of a new God Hand, wherein there is an area that acts as a junction in between the astral realm and the human realm.

There are 4 members of God hand durring the Gold age Arc (the 5th doesn't appear until the end of said arc)

Void is a member of the God Hand with a large, exposed brain, eyes stitched shut and lips peeled back. He is the most philosophical God Hand member and is primarily concerned with analyzing and controlling the course of destiny. Void is the one who brands the sacrifices made by tortured souls in order for them to become Apostles and achieve their dream. His cloak and body seem to be distorted and he has the power to open up a sort of inter dimensional mirror portal at his own will. Also notable, he has six fingers on each hand. Apparently the nemesis of the Skull Knight, who he may have sacrificed in a long passed story similar to Guts', he seems to be the leader of the group.

The God Hand Ubik has the form of a small floating figure wearing glasses and having tentacle-like legs. Ubik appears to be a deceiver; he is able to conjure up images from the past to persuade potential Apostles and God Hands to fulfill the ritual of sacrifice.

Slan takes on the form of a succubus with black leathery wings and vine-like hair. She is a sadomasochist who thrives on cruelty and the effect it has on those who observe it.

Conrad is concerned with inevitability and doom and appears as a puckered human face with the body of a massive wood louse. In a town in Western Midland he is shown as having destroyed the populace with the Black Plague, his head materializing from the plague-carrying rats that infested the town.

Apostles

An Apostle is the term coined by the demons that appear in the Berserk world.

An Apostle is a human who has used a Behelit to sacrifice their loved ones or dream to transcend their humanity and become a demon and a servant of the God Hand. Each Apostle receives a demonic body capable of transformation. Every 216 years, they gather to the Eclipse ceremony whereby they can feed off the sacrificed.

Some Apostles have been known to defy the God Hand's will, either because of their unruly nature or their hunger for power. The one "commandment" imposed on them is "do as thou will," however, since that rule also applies equally to those Apostles who are loyal to the God Hand, nothing prevents them from exacting retribution on rebellious Apostles.

The Brand of Sacrifice

The Brand of Sacrifice marks those sacrificed during a sacrificial ceremony in which an Apostle or God Hand is created. The sacrifice must be someone, or something, close and dear to the summoner. They will be devoured by spirits and demons from the Abyss as the new Apostle or God Hand is born.

Branded humans who are fortunate enough to survive reside in the Interstice between the Physical and Astral worlds. Ghosts and Demons hunger for their flesh at night. In response to evil, the brand will bleed. Around ordinary evil spirits or apostles, the blood will only trickle out. Around a God Hand, the brand will shoot blood out in huge gushes. And if the evil is too great, it can supposedly kill the branded.

The Skull Knight

The Skull Knight first appeared to warn Guts after he left the Band of the Hawks about the group's future demise. His horse appears to be able to fly and jump upon trees. Over the course of Guts' journey, he saved him several times and also seemed to manipulate events around Guts for his own purpose of revenge. He called Guts "struggler", who forever is fighting against fate.

Little is known about his identity and past. Princess Charlotte once told of a story about a certain Emperor Gaiseric who ruled over his kingdom generously, albeit it was a short lived kingdom, as it was perished to Skull Knight in Eclipse
BlackdrakAdded by Blackdrak
the very bottom of the Midlands by a god. Gaiseric was said to have worn armour which bore a striking resemblance to that worn by the Skull Knight himself, with the inclusion of a skull-like helmet and heavy armour, which leads Guts to think they may be one and the same. He also has small crystal like spikes protruding from the top of his head/helmet, bearing a close resemblance to that of a crown. Also, it is hinted that he sacrificed the kingdom he built for his transformation into an Apostle.

He fights against evil, and Slan calls him "King". He has known, and apparently had a close relationship with, the witch Flora for at least several hundred years and was also one of the previous owners of Berserker Armor.

Different Types of Characters

Wizards and Witches - As with most manga Magic does exist and people can choose to be Witches or Wizards however the magic used in Berserk is different from the magic that we are all accustomed to. Magic in the Berserk world is dependant on where about your character is. If you are in a warzone that is surrounded by fire you could call forth the soul of the Flames of War and use that as your magic. Or if you are in an evil place you could call forth a being of darkness. Wizards and Witches are severely weakened in more industrial towns and cities as there is very little natural magic left in such places. The Witch/Wizard must leave their physical bodies and use their astral bodies to commune with the different entites that reside within the astral plane. Although this can take some time to contact the entities, and their bodies are left they are still some of the strongest beings in existence.

Humans - Humans are the adaptable beings that are in the Berserk world and can do a variety of things, although their strong wills are what always see them through, far beyond the physical limitation.

Elves - Elves exist in Berserk too although not the human sized pointy eared type that they are usually depicted, in berserk they are small humanoid creatures, although they still have the pointy ears they are small. They have wings and can not be seen by people who have turned their backs on the different planes of existence. Elves are capable of doing magical things, such as healing wounds or creating medicine with their dust from their wings, known as Elf Dust. Although their size generally limits their usefulness in combat, they may use a bright flash, acting as a flare to blind enemies temporarily, and carry small objects.

Apostles - See above description.

Magical Weaponry

There are numerous forms of magical weaponry however these are incredibly rare and they often take on the properties of an element such as; Earth, Air, Water and Fire. The weapons themselves have thousands of elemental beings that reside within them. These beings control the power of the weapons, the better relationship you have with these entities the stronger the weapons become.

Magical Armour

Magical armour is a lot more rare than the weapons, there has only ever been one case of Magical Armour that being the Armour that Gutts is using, which is aptly named the Berserker Armour.

The Berserker Armour is a cursed suit of armour which gives the wearer incredible strength and endurance. It does this by allowing its users to bypass the natural subconscious limits that prevent them from injuring themselves when using their full strength. It can temporarily fix injuries by binding bleeding wounds, reinforcing broken bones, and fixing dislocated joints. It can also cause temporary insanity, causing the wearer to enter a "berserker rage" and rendering them incapable of distinguishing friend from foe. In the long term, it can cause chronic mental deterioration (such as the strengthening of Guts' inner beast) and severe physical effects as well. It is believed that prolonged use of the Berserker Armour is what caused the Skull Knight to enter his current skeletal form.

The Armour takes on the physical properties of the owners inner-beast in Gutts' case it is a hellhound type beast.

I think this is more of an indepth look rather than an overview but the point is the same, make a comment and see if you are interested in joining the RP.

This looks like a fairly interesting idea, actually, though I'd like to see more where you intend to take the plot. Knowing what the purpose of things is generally helps to establish ideas for those considering joining. ^^

Yeh I agree, it's got a good strong context and sturdy blance between the creatures and the world thier in.

But I'm curious as to how you'll present the story, if people are using exsisting characters as their own, then the story will change as well. It would be nitersting to see how people chage the storyline, but if there's a time limit (like per say, the universe will end) and an important character didn't know this, it would end the story abruptly.

Not to put a dampener on your idea, it's very well made! But how would you tackle this? Otherwise I'm all for it ^^

As far as I can tell Berserk is a story of how Men face decisions and it is when those decisions are made that they show their true selves. So there may be a slight change in a character that could alter the storyline but that would just mean it is an evolving RP that can change. The end of the golden age in berserk ends with Griffith going to Jail and being tortured. If that still happens then the RP will naturally progress to the Black swordsman Arc. If not then it becomes a completely new alternate reality where instead of Griffith going to jail he may become the Successor to the throne of Midland. If that happens then I will come up with an entirely new plot. If not then we can continue down the same path until it veers from it. However with an RP where everyone decides how they want their character to develop is what makes for a better one in my opinion. So far all I can say is I will allow the story to progress then When I see fit I will introduce a new challenge or character and see what happens from there. I will be participating in this RP but I'd like everyone to have their own input and views, heck I would be glad if someone decided to throw a challenge my way.

For now the only things I have set in stone so far, is that midland is in the midst of a 100 year war, The band of hawk has been enlisted by the King, Griffith, Gutts and Caska will be in the story, as well as Godhand although they will not appear right away. The Skull Knight will be the character that will give an overview of the current situation (I.E. First post where people can start off from) You may also create your own mythical creatures as they are in a abundance in the astral plane, but I will not accept anyone who has Godly powers. Although Godhand are extremely strong, I will RP as them to begin with but if I feel someone has understood the Berserk world I will allow them to RP as them as well but under the strict instruction that they can not appear out of nowhere when ever they want and kill people.

Well, Elmo. You have this idea pretty well laid out. If you think it'll go over and you can get people to join, go ahead and post the signups. I approve of this RP. =]
